All I had to do was to go a lot further along Freeman's Road before I turned left. Everything was properly signed and the journey fast. The only disappointment was that the grassy camping/picnic area was fenced off from the car park so that I couldn't set Bertha up comfortably. After spending one night parked beside the toilets. I relocated to a clearing back a little down the track where I could be both isolated and comfortable and got breakfast started. It proved a great spot to spend the next two days and the intervening night. Last summer's fire had been through this part of the forest, so it was good to see it recovering nicely.

,I'd read the National Parks directions from the freeway and they seemed to make easy sense, which agreed well thewith Google Maps directions to Bangalow campsite, Watagans National Park, NSW. They said, "From Gosford: Travel north along the F3 Expressway and take the Morriset/Coorangbong exit near Freemans Waterhole. Turn left into Freemans Drive, and travel south to Martinsville Road on the left. Follow Martinville Road to Watagan Road on the left and follow uphill to Watagan Forest Road. Turn right and follow approximately 6km to the park."
At a certain point, deep in the forest, Google said, "You have arrived. Your destination is on the right." I had arrived at a muddy spot under beautiful trees somewhere beyond the Pines Forest Park in the Olney State Forest. Maybe I missed the right turn back in Martinsville. The track onwards looked fairly impassable, so I rolled back down the magnificently forested ridge to a clearing in the State Forest just above Martinsville. It was a fine forest space with logging trucks going by, no longer marked on the maps, and once called 'Wishing Well Forest Park'. It was a fine place to spend one night, but not totally quiet because of the logging trucks and associated vehicles going up and down the hill. |
